Washington Post writer laments parental 'loss of control'

Sunday's Washington Post had an excellent op-ed article by Ruth Marcus entitled "Ready to Throw In the Sponge?" in which she finds herself unexpectedly aligning with (as she puts it) the "Focusers on the Family". In the article, Ms. Marcus shares how she feels upon learning that her young children learned more than perhaps she even wanted them to know about transgendered families at their private elementary school.
Speaking to transgendered readers, Ms. Marcus (a Washington Post staff writer) says she would gladly bring over a casserole if they "moved in next door", and "happily explain the whole deal to the kids". "But" she continues, "is it really necessary...to go through all this in elementary school? And whether my reaction is right or wrong, shouldn't this be a decision for me and my husband to make--not something sprung on us by our school?"
Our thoughts exactly.
